Michael Kors is one of the leading American designers of our time.  Born Karl Anderson, Jr. he started his career young; selling his handmade designs from his parent’s basement in Long Island.  After spending some time in FIT in NY, he dropped out to accept a position as a designer for a store called Lothar’s on the West Side of NY.

The story of his fame starts here because he was recognized from Dawn Mello, working at Bergdorf Goodman, and she insisted he start on his own collection.  Upon finishing, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue bought his first collection in May 1981 and his fame skyrocketed from there.  Over the years he established his chic and simple, pristinely tailored line of womenswear.  This aesthetic would carry his career.  Upon recognition from Vogue editor, Anna Wintour, Michael would be recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers in America.

He started his career with the Michael Kors Collection which targeted a high end customer looking for quality over price.  Targeting different price points, Michael made KORS by Michael Kors for a mass-market at a slightly higher price point than his other line; Michael by Michael Kors which also includes apparel and accessories.  KORS by Michael Kors can be found in many department stores as well as Michael by Michael Kors.  In 2001, he introduced his accessories line and followed the same simple, chic, and elegant aesthetic that is true to his brand.  He includes handbags, clutches, wristlets, iPhone and iPad accessories, and other small leather goods in his offerings.

Combining his simplistic and timeless style with new age leather goods, this brand is here for the long haul and will never go out of style.  His products can be found online at michaelkors.com, at Michael Kors boutiques, and at specialty stores including Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Neiman Marcus.
